Kyoungsook Kim, as the Deputy Director, has had an illustrious career. From November 2007 to March 2014, she worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), where she played a significant role in the field of technology research. Subsequently, from August 2017, she continued her research journey as a researcher at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), consistently contributing to her research accomplishments.
In September 2017, Kyoungsook Kim was appointed as the team leader at AIST, where she took on the responsibility of leading a research team. From January 2021 to March 2022, she served as a Planning Officer at AIST, where she was instrumental in determining and adjusting the organization’s strategies and directions. Presently, she continues her dedicated work as the Deputy Director at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).
At the FOSS4G Asia 2023 Seoul event, Kyoungsook Kim is scheduled to present on the “PntML (Place and Time for Machine Learning) platform.” Her presentation will focus on the management of large-scale 3D point cloud data, the integration of various point cloud datasets, and the creation of customized spatial data infrastructure to meet the demands of various applications.
Kyung-soo Eom, the former UN Director, has had a remarkable career as well. He served as the Chief GIS Unit in UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations from 2000 to 2005, and from 2012, he took on the role of Chief Cartographic Section, United Nations. Until 2014, he also served as the Chief Strategic Support Service, UN Department of Field Support
Furthermore, from 2011 to 2023, Kyung-soo Eom served as the Co-Secretary to UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). Starting in 2015, he held the position of Chief Geospatial Information Section, United Nations. He made significant contributions in the field of geospatial information and spatial data management during his tenure, and he retired from his position in September 2023.
At FOSS4G Asia 2023 Seoul, he will be delivering a presentation with the theme “Towards the Future of FOSS4G Asia.”
