Diego Gonzalez Ferreiro served as Geospatial Project Coordinator at MONUSCO from 2009 to 2013, then worked as a GIS Officer at UNSOS until 2016. In 2022, he was appointed Chief at UNGSC Data Management and currently serves as Chief in UNGSC’s Solutions and Support Unit.
At FOSS4G-Asia 2023 Seoul, the UN Operational Support Department, established in 2019, will introduce the global initiative UN Maps. They will address the lack of geographical information in peacekeeping operations in Africa and the Middle East, showcasing how UN Maps, supported by the UN Mappers community, enhances operational information, and contributes to sustainable development through peacekeeping and humanitarian support.
Hidenori Fujimura worked at the National Land and Geographic Information Agency from 2002 to 2007. Following that, he conducted research at Leibniz University Hannover from 2007 to 2008 and later worked at the National Land and Geographic Information Agency until 2011. From 2011 to 2013, he served at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, then returned to the National Land and Geographic Information Agency until 2017. From 2017 to 2019, he worked at the UN Geographic Information Section, and currently, since 2019 until 2023, he is employed at the Japan Geographic Information Institute.
At FOSS4G-Asia 2023 Seoul, the introduction will include the UN Smart Maps Group (SMG), a volunteer group utilizing OGC 3D Tiles, PMTiles, and IPFS to prototype a distributed digital twin. The group experiments with open-source large language models, maintaining open web maps for collaboration with UN missions and service organizations, contributing to a better world.
