Oral Presenter’s Guide

Introduction

You will probably wish to prepare some slides to support your presentation. Prepare your slides as a PowerPoint file or a PDF and bring them with you to the conference.

The total time allotted to each presenter is 20 minutes (15 Minutes for Presentation and 5 Minutes for Q/A).

You will need to load your presentation onto the session computer 1hr before your stream, to facilitate a smooth transition between speakers. Name your file with the session No, Presentation ID and name of the presenting author (e.g., Session1-PID1-Jayasinghe). (Note: Session and Presentation ID will be available on the conference website on 25th November, 2018).

We recommend that you also bring  your presentation on a data stick or other portable memory device

 

Audio-Visual Equipment

The presentation room will be equipped with a laptop PC and projector. There will also be a microphone. Wireless Internet access will be available from the presentation computer.

If you opt to use your own computer to connect to the projector please consider the following:

No adapters will be available on site; Please be sure to bring the proper adapter that will fit your computer.

Technical Staff will not be able to mitigate any issues that may arise with your personal machine

Preparing your presentation

The oral presentations will be given in a medium size lecture hall (seating up to 50-100 people). You need to make sure that a large audience will be able to see and read your visuals clearly. All presentation will recode by the conference organizing committee and all the presentations would be broadcasted online.

 

Speaker Agreement

All presenters have to agree on following conditions;

  1. Sessions are open to all conference participants, including members of the press, higher educational institutions and representatives of corporate organizations.
  2. Presentations (Slides, Audio Video Recording) are share on conference web and AV would be broadcasted online.

 

Presenters are required to register for the conference by October 20.

 


 

Special extension to submit abstracts & full paper

We are glad to have received over 100 submissions to academic track and general track; and 14 workshop proposals.
 
The FOSS4G ASIA – 2018 organizing committee has decided to provide a special extension to submit abstracts (General Track) and full papers (Academic Track) till October 15, 2018  to allow time for anyone still planning to submit an individual paper presentation or abstract presentation. Successful submissions will be notified by 20th October 2018.

Full Paper Submission – Extended Deadline 15 August 2018

“FOSS4G-Asia 2018 Sri Lanka – Academic Track” provides a strong basis for collaboration among researchers, developers, users, and practitioners carrying out research and development in the open source geospatial technologies. Accordingly, the academic track call for both academic and practical papers.

 

Submissions guidelines

At the first step, authors are invited to submit abstracts written in English comprising 500-800 words before the abstract submission deadline. Abstracts must contain sufficient details for evaluation (including the approach, results, concepts, practicality for audience). The contributions are accepted on the abstract double-blind review process. Submitted abstracts will be refereed for quality, originality and relevance by the Scientific Committee. Authors will receive feedback and suggestions for improvement to their papers to be submitted in step two by the deadline.

Full paper submission

If the abstract is accepted the authors are invited to submit the corresponding paper dealing with original and unpublished research. Authors of selected abstracts will be requested to submit the full paper on or before the deadline. Your contributions will be reviewed (double-blind) by the Scientific Committee, who will assess the paper on originality and academic rigor, as well as interest for the wider FOSS4G community. Based on your paper presentation, as well as discussion with the editors, a final selection will be made, and a final round of editing will be undertaken.

All accepted full papers will be published in the FOSS4G-Asia 2018 conference proceedings provided at least one author is registered for the Conference before the 15th September 2018. The Proceedings will be published and will be available on the first day of the Conference and will be available in the conference USB. Full papers could be shortlisted for publication in following journals.

International Journal of Geoinformatics (IJG): IJG aims at publishing scientific and technical development in the diverse field of Geoinformatics (Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Geographic Information Systems, Global Positioning Systems). It is published quarterly (March, June, September, and December) by Geoinformatics International for Association of Geoinformation Technology (Scopus Indexed).

Spatial Information Research: This journal covers spatial information science including technology, policies and practices, exploring both operational and computational issues of spatial information, and its use in decision making. Official journal of the Korea Spatial Information Society.

Bhumi, The Planning Research Journal: Bhumi is a biannual journal published by the Town & Country Planning Research Institute of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and the La Trobe University, Australia. Bhumi serves a wide range of subject areas, directly and indirectly, related to Urban and Rural Planning, Economics, Development, Governance, Urban Management, Environmental Planning, Resource Management, Construction, Housing, Infrastructure, Urban Design, Politics, Technology etc.
