Open source databases and software tools for effective processing and retrieval of bulk volume Geospatial data

Presenter : C. A. Rishikeshan

Type:  Oral

The availability of GIS open source software would allow researchers and solution developers access to a wider range of tools than what is currently offered by the commercial companies. However, open source software is not well adopted in GIS education due to the lack of user-friendly guidance and the full integration of GIS learning resources. This investigation uses 100 year rainfall data ranging from year 1901 to 2013. As the data is bulky the storage and efficient retrieval of the data becomes a complex task. However, open source software is not well adopted in GIS education due to the lack of user-friendly guidance and the full integration of GIS learning resources. This research is also meant to address this issue using important open source GIS tools. Moreover this investigation will provide an insight into few significant free and open source software (FOSS) towards understanding the potential role and capabilities in remote sensing and GIS education and other aspects.
