Campus Information System (CIS) enables the users an access to a collection of available information resources of a university campus. One of the important tasks in the development and maintenance of a CIS is collection of spatial and non-spatial data from the field, which is usually a time consuming and complicated process. Research is being carried out on the use of GPS embedded smart phones with internet access as data collection devices. Using a smart phone, field data collection can be made simple and handy while enabling the user participation. The focus of this paper is to present the development of a mobile application using the open source Android platform and a database management system such as PostgreSQL for collecting data on the campus. The database will then be integrated with Web-GIS based CIS that is being developed for National Institute of Technology, Warangal. The application will also be used in visualization of the campus and  in a map based problem reporting.
