Open source GIS software and FOSS4G tools have been utilized to develop a decision support system (DSS) for monitoring slum areas in Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation limits, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh state in India. The DSS has been named as Rajahmundry Slum Information System (RSIS). Methodology for the development of RSIS, its scope and utility are discussed in detail. The present work demonstrates how various FOSS4G tools can be integrated with open source GIS software and JAVA coding in Eclipse IDE to develop decision support systems.
